How We Told... [Vol. 1]

One of the amazing things about getting pregnant is telling people! Since I was higher risk, we wanted to make sure we didn't tell too many people, too fast. That was the tricky part. However, telling people about our little peanut has always been and still is so much fun!! This is how we told all of the special people in our lives...

It was kind of hard...impossible...to take pictures when we told my family, seeing as how they live in SC. So, I added some pictures just for fun!)

My mom...I was 6 weeks pregnant and I was busting at the seams to tell my mom! My mom and I had many, many, many discussions over the summer and throughout all of my doctor's visits, so we were on the same page...waiting. I wanted to do something "cute," but wasn't quite sure what I was going to do yet.

One day, we were talking on the phone and my mom was telling me about how her and my dad went hiking at Table Rock (in SC) over the weekend. She said, "There was this little area that looked like it would be so much fun and I thought to myself that I would love to take my grand kids here." When she said that...I HAD to tell her! So I said, "Well, since you're going to be a grandma, you'll be able to!" She was really quiet...then she said, "You're pregnant?!?!" like she couldn't believe it! I said, "I sure am! Grandma!" Then the total loss of composure continued for both of us along with a thousand questions and, "I can't believe you waited 6 weeks to tell me!!" True mom. True...sorry!
My mom and Dad! (pictures taken in April)
My Dad...I told my mom to keep my secret until I could Skype dad and tell him. I happened to Skype with him really quickly since it was my birthday weekend! We got on Skype...finally...on a Sunday. We had the normal, "Hey! How are you?" convo and then I said, "Dad, close your eyes." At this point, Brad and I held up a sign that said, "You're going to be GRANDPARENTS!" on it. My dad doesn't do cutesy stuff and he doesn't do hints. He likes the "spit it out already" stuff. So that's what we did! He got a huge grin on his face, started giggling, and said, "Well praise the Lord!" Haha my dad is the cutest ever!!

My sister...I wanted to share our news with some of our family before "everyone else" found out, but again- I wanted to surprise each person in a special way. Brad and I had our announcement photos taken when I was 8 weeks, and the day I was planning on Skyping my sister our photographer emailed me the link to view our photos! Best timing ever! My sister and her hubby recently moved into their new house (they built also!), so I told her I wanted to Skype so that I could see her new house. She called and we talked for over an hour!! I kept trying to work in a way for her to look up the photos.

Finally, she said something about a picture, so I jumped in and said, "Oh, speaking of photos...Brad and I got some one year anniversary photos taken. Do you want to see them?" She looked skeptical, but she said, "Sure." I gave her the link for her to look up and the password to view our photos. Remember, she was on Skype so I could see her reactions! She clicked on the first photo and started reading the pup's signs, "Baby Bishop guard duty, starting 4.27.2014." Then she just kind of sat there. Then it hit her and she said, "Really?!?" (Why does everyone keep saying that?!) I said, "Yep! You're going to be an Auntie!!" She was pretty excited!

Then I asked her if she wanted to see my little bump (I was 10 weeks and some days). She said, "Of course," so I stood up to show her. She said (this cracked me up)..."Yea, you look like a normal person now. No one has a flat stomach like you *used to*." HAHAHAHA! Thanks Jaim. I appreciate that. I was all excited about my bump...then I find out I look like a normal person now. Still cracks me up!

The rest of my Family...Since the rest of my family lives in Connecticut, South Carolina, and Colorado we decided to send out a mass email to them. That way we could "tell everyone at one time" and they wouldn't have to find out on Facebook. We sent them this picture and an email that said, "We have some news! See the pictures below!"

The responses we got were GREAT!! It is SO much fun to tell people our happy news! FINALLY!
