I Finally did it - Stitch Fix #1

Yep, I finally did it. I signed up for Stitch Fix. I have several friends who use the service and I have finally gotten really tired of trying to find unique pieces in our small town. Sorry Cedar Falls, I love you, but the shopping here is majorly lacking. So I decided to sign up for Stitch Fix. Basically, Stitch Fix is an online service for fashion and personalized styling. You can read more about it here.

I created an account, filled out a lot of information about myself and my preferences in fashion. What I like, what I don't like, what my style is, what style of clothing I would like, my size, the fit I prefer, my age, my my favorite colors, etc. It took a bit to fill out, but the more information you give your stylist, the better they are able to personalize your Fix! It costs $20 to receive your first Fix. That amount will go towards whatever items you decide to keep. Your Fix will have about five items for you to try on in the comfort of your home. I asked for items under $50 because I do not spend a large sum on one piece of clothing (normally). After you try on the clothes, decide what to keep or return, you pack the returns in a prepackaged bag, and drop it off at the UPS store within three days. Easy peasy! You can also schedule when you would like your Fixes; every two weeks, once a month, every other month, or put it on hold. I scheduled my Fix for every other month for now.

I schedule my first Fix for a Friday so that I would have the weekend to make decision about the items that were sent to me. I was so excited when the UPS guy dropped the box off during Dayton's nap. That gave me plenty of time to play with my first Fix! Here is what I received!

I'm not going to lie, I liked some of the items but was pretty disappointed. Everything was waaay to big! I had been conservative and asked for size small in shirts, but it looks like I will have to ask for extra smalls. I was bummed. I didn't really want jeans in my fix, so that kind of stunk too. I mean, it's summer! I need shorts! They did send styles that I would have liked though! I had asked for summer clothes, tank tops, and a country, boho style. When you receive your Fix you also get the return bag with prepaid postage, a card that shows ways to style each piece, and a "bill" if you choose to keep any of the items. If you keep all of the items, you get a 25% discount!

Item 1  |  This top was too big and I didn't love the fit, but I did love the colors and pattern. It would have been a great top for work and for weekend wear. Bummer - return.

Item 2  |  I actually loved this top and thought about keeping it, but again it was one size to big. Sad! The black and white stripes were so cute and subtle. It was really comfortable and was longer in the back. Too bad - return.

Item 3  |  This top was kind of like a sleeveless chambray shirt, but it was a very soft material. I liked it, but I felt it was a little too "mom-ish" for me and it was definitely too big. Cute, but no - return.

Item 4  |  I did not like this top at all. The fringe was weird, the fit was terrible, and it just was all wrong. Yuck - return for sure.

Item 5  |  Like I said before, I wasn't really excited about getting jeans, but I thought I might as well try them on. I don't have any cropped jeans, so maybe they would be cute? Yea, no. They were way too "mom-ish" for me and with my small stature, it just made me look stumpy. They were also a size or maybe even 2 too big. They were the most comfortable material though! No thanks - return.

Overall, I was a little disappointed in this fix. I mean, $20 with nothing to show for it! I did go ahead and return everything, give my stylist plenty of feedback, change my sizing, and schedule my next Fix for July 14th! I wanted one sooner than a month and half later since I didn't keep anything. Hopefully, the next one gets better! I'm pretty picky, so we will see. Until then!

Fearless Fashion Friday

Aaaand I just found this link up...amazing. Let's see, two things I love: 1) Friday and 2) fashion. Done deal.

Here's my Friday fashion story. When we lived in South Carolina, my school allowed jeans every Friday. Yep, every Friday. Can you even imagine? Well, now that we're in Iowa, that is so NOT the case. Ugh. The one advantage of not being able to wear jeans every Friday??? As of 2 weeks ago, I created Fabulous Friday...in my head and through my Friday's fashion.

So, when I saw this today?!? Perfect!! Here's my Fearless Fashion Friday outfit this morning. (and yes, the photos were taken with my iPhone...like always ;) )

Red, Gold, Black, and Leopard.
To die for...leopard heels! I got tons of compliments on the outfit, but especially my heels!

Happy Friday!

I'm Spoiled Rotten because of my Husband

If you haven't noticed by now...my husband tends to spoil me...rotten. No complaints here! After the dating history that I have had (i.e. paying for myself and previous boyfriend when I was in college and working 3 jobs to pay the bills), let's just say that Brad has been my knight in shining armor. And if you're starting to wonder if money is the issue...it's definitely not. Yes, Brad spoils me monetarily, but he also spoils me emotionally. He's my bear. I don't think a day has gone by when that man hasn't told me and shown me how much he loves me. It's the little things that make the difference, not the big things. I mean, the big things sure are nice, but I value that man's love more than anything else in this world. My hubby sure does know how to show it!

Brad and I have always been pretty good about budgeting. In fact, living as a single teacher who supports herself completely for 4 years, I have learned the value of budgeting. Then I met Brad. His budget is in excel. It's pretty detailed to say the least.

We've been really goo about our budget since we moved, had 2 houses, sold 1, and now have moved into our new house. Budgeting and watching what we spent have been a priority these past few months. So when we traveled to Gvegas for Christmas AND after Brad received his bonus this year, we decided to loosen up a little on the budget...ok maybe more than a little. This is where the spoiling comes in.

The day after Christmas, we went to the outlet malls in Gaffney. We were going there to shop at the Nike and Under Armor outlets. We are at the gym 6 days a week, so work out clothes need to hold up pretty well. Nike and Under Armor are our workout clothes of choice. They just last longer and fit well. We got to Gaffney and Nike was the first store we went to...and it was awesome. We also ventured into a "few" other stores just to look around. Well let me tell you, the sales at the outlets the day after Christmas were VERY good to us. Banana Republic being one of the best! I could not believe the deals we were getting.

Now, I'm a bargain hunter 245/7. I don't buy something, unless it is: 1) under $20 and not on sale or 2) on sale at least 40% off. So normally, I get really good deals. I can't even remember the last time I paid full price for something. I always go for the sales and specials. My husband appreciates this very much...not that I shop at expensive stores to begin with.

Anyways...we shopped at Gaffney, the Haywood mall in Greenville, and one other outlet. We got a ton-for some great prices! Sweaters, blazers, pencil skirts, dress shirts, cute tops, jewelry, t-shirts, workout pants, workout shirts, tennis shoes, heels, and new boots! A girl's heaven I tell ya.

All this to say...my husband spoils me...rotten. (He spoiled himself too. Don't worry, he did a lot of shopping also!) Merry Christmas to us!
