Week 8~
Oh hey morning sickness...wait, I mean all day sickness. Yet again this week, sick, tired, and overall ick. However, like I said before - if I feel sick then baby is probably ok! This week also held our 8 week doctor's appointment on September 21st. Since I was considered "higher risk," we got to do an ultrasound and see baby!! FINALLY! I had been counting down the days until we went to the doctor so that I could know that baby was doing ok. I knew it would help my peace of mind at least!
We had our normal appointment - talking to the nurse - and then we got to go to the ultrasound. Brad was with me for this appointment, which made it even more special! The ultrasound tech did her thing and after a minute...there was our sweet teeny tiny baby! on a screen for us to see!! *JOY* I teared up. I couldn't even help it. I almost felt like I had been holding back a little bit of my excitement because I had been so worried about miscarrying. Now, I could breath a little easier knowing that baby was in there, at the right size, and had a strong heart beat. We didn't get to hear the heart beat, but the tech did measure it. Hands down, the most wonderful thing I have ever seen!!
Our doctor also came in to see baby and make sure everything was ok, so Brad got to meet her. She said everything was perfect and that she would see us in 4 weeks! We got our picture and quickly sent it to both of our parents. I know my mom had a HUGE sigh of relief! Here are some of my favorite quotes from the appointment...
Tech: to Brad, "How are you doing?" Brad: "I have no idea what's going on or what to expect. I'm just taking it all in!"
Ultrasound tech: "There's baby. Looks like a little teddy graham."
Me: Dead silence, tearing up, staring at the screen in awe.
Brad: "It has a big head." (That man had the biggest, happiest, proudest grin on his face the entire ultrasound. He's a very proud daddy.) HA!
Doctor G: "Everything is perfect!"
Brad: (while I was changing) "I was going to tell her it looked like her, but then I said it had a big head. So I decided not to." Tech: "Maybe it takes after you!" LOL!!
Brad: "I think my wife can finally breathe now." Sigh...my husband. He states the obvious! Love it.

Bumpdate: 8 weeks
- Baby is the size of a : raspberry
- Weight : 0.04 oz. / Length : 0.63 in.
- This week baby's reproductive organs start to form, even though we still cannot see them. Baby's face has an upper lip, eyelids and tip of it's nose. A tiny tongue is also growing in it's mouth! Little fingers and toes are also starting to form.
Weight Gain: Since the beginning of July when I was told to get my body fat percentage up (it was at 14%...the average woman is at 18-24%) AND to stop working out (I could only walk), I have gained about 8 pounds. Not too shabby.
Pregnancy Symptoms: All day sickness, fatigue, soreness, general "ick" feeling. This week the nurse gave me a prescription for Zofran, but I am not big on prescription drugs, so I have avoided taking it so far. (I believe more in natural remedies and prescription drugs only when necessary.) If I can get through the sickness without taking medicine, I believe it's safer for the baby. I also get up at least once a night to use the bathroom. My hair is a little thicker and my nails are thick and loooong! Woo!
Clothing: Most of my clothes still fit, but I am trying to wear my more baggy shirts because you can see my little belly! I'm trying to hide the fact that I am pregnant and my belly is not helping!! My only saving grace is that I am at a new school and not back home. If I had been back home, my co-workers would have noticed by now. Having always had a flat stomach...it makes it obvious to people who know me!
Food Cravings: Not really anything...I'm just trying to force myself to eat, even though I feel like I'm going to throw up!
Food Aversions: I don't like anything sweet or greasy. Those make the sick feeling worse. I also stopped drinking coffee...*gasp*...at week 5 and haven't touched it since. If you know me, you know that I drink my coffee black and I drink about 3-4 cups a day! So this was a major change. Hello water in the mornings now! Not really any food sounds "good" to me at this point. Raw meat totally makes me gag, as well. Blah.
Movement: Nothing yet. It's way to early!
Sleep: I am usually out like a rock at night and as soon as I hit my pillow. I can also fall asleep anywhere at anytime. I love me some naps!
Best Moment So Far: Seeing a healthy, growing baby on the ultrasound. I still tear up thinking about it and looking at the picture.
Looking Forward to: Making it to week 12 with no complications!!

Bumpdate: 9 weeks
- Baby is the size of a : grape
- Weight : 0.07 oz. / Length : 0.90 in.
- This week is the end of the "embryonic period" and the beginning of the "foetal period." Baby's liver, kidney, brain, and lungs are all beginning to function. Baby's head is half the size of his/her body and the little tail is starting to disappear! Fingers and toes are still webbed, but this will go away in a few weeks. Baby's eyes are also developed, but it will be weeks before they open.
Weight Gain: Still about 8 pounds. Whew.
Pregnancy Symptoms: Basic pregnancy symptoms still: sick (all day), exhausted, lack of motivation to do anything other than sit, general soreness/aching, longer nails, etc. However, this week I did notice that I haven't had any headaches since I've been pregnant!! (I used to get a headache every day and consistent migraines throughout the month).
Clothing: My pants are definitely getting tighter, but I am still able to button them! I had to buy some baggie shirts (thank goodness tunic shorts are "in" roght now!!) to hide my little baby bump. I think I am going to buy some BeBands this week...
Food Cravings: Definitely not craving anything. Still forcing it down! I've been eating a lot of whole grain breads and crackers though. That seems to help!
Food Aversions: Pretty much everything.
Movement: Nothing yet.
Sleep: Dead asleep every time I lay down. Still getting up once a night for a bathroom break!
Best Moment So Far: Looking at our baby's picture that hangs on our refrigerator every day!
Looking Forward to: The same...Making it to week 12 with no complications!!
