Dayton ~ 5 Weeks

This week has been kind of busy, but has been great! This week we had church group, errands to run, gifts to buy, people to see, and lunch and dinner plans. We also got to go to school this week to meet all of the babies that have been born (click here)!

I just can't believe how much my baby is already growing up! He is getting so much more responses and interactive. His little faces, noises, and mannerisms just make me smile. This boy has my heart!

Mommy: I'm doing well. I've been able to start running each day, but boy am I out of shape! Ugh. On another depressing note. I'm not doing as well as I thought with losing baby weight. *insert break down*. We don't own a scale. Why you ask? because muscle weighs more than fat. We work out, a lot, which is why my body fat percentage was so low pre-pregnancy. The scale is just a number to us. We go more by how we look, how our clothes fit, and our body fat percentage. That is a lot more telling than a number. I weighed 125 lbs before I got pregnant and had about 14% body fat. At my 8 week doctor's appointment, I had gained 8 pounds, which was great and exactly what the doctor ordered. Overall, I gained 34 pounds with my pregnancy.

This weekend, I stepped on the scale at Beth's house to see about where I was, mostly out of curiosity. Yikes!! I looked at the number and started tearing up. Seriously. 20 more pounds. I have 20 more pounds to lose before I get back to 125. I have never, ever seen the scale go so high and frankly for a fitness freak like me...it hit me like a ton of bricks and I totally broke down on the way home that night. Poor hubs. I know, I know I just had a baby and I had to gain even more weight to keep my pregnancy healthy. That still doesn't make it any easier!

I knew that losing weight would be more of a mental struggle more for me than a physical struggle. I know I can lose the weight and if I wasn't nursing, I know I could lose it pretty quickly. However, I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my milk supply. So there's my struggle - keeping my milk supply up and losing the baby weight as quickly as possible. Ugh. Just ugh. I just want to be back to my normal size. Really bad. Being "heavy" is seriously killing my type A, fitness nut, perfectionist personality. Baby = first priority. Me = second priority. Welcome to reality. It's okay...I'll get through it. I'll lose that 20 pounds and I will be careful enough not to jeopardize my milk supply.

Nursing/Eating: Dayton is doing great nursing. Although, he is a very hungry little boy and sometimes gets frustrated when he has to work a little to get another let down. That boy. We're doing really well this week on a 2 1/2 hour eating schedule. This little boy is growing at a very rapid pace!

Our schedule right now is : 6 am, 8:30, 11:00, 1:30 pm, 4, 6:30, 9 pm. Working great so far!

Sleeping: Dayton is still a sleepy baby. He falls asleep almost every time that he eats and then is fine sleeping 2 hours between feedings. We're working on awake time! He's also still doing great at night. We usually give him a pumped bottle at 9 pm, he sleeps until 2 am, goes back to bed around 2:30 am, then wakes up around 6 or 6:30 am. I love that he's sleeping 4 hour blocks at night. Makes this Momma's life much easier!

Size: Little man feels huge to me. Last time we weighed him (on an adult scale...ha!) he weighed 9 lb. 9.6 oz. Yikes! It would not surprise me if we weighed more though. He's filling out and putting on some chunk. He is also officially wearing 0-3 month clothing. He looks so big now!

Development: I could watch and play with Dayton every second of the day. He is just so cute! I love watching him become more alert and he's following objects and us with his eyes even more. He makes adorable little faces and is starting to smile just a bit. I even saw some dimples when I was playing with him yesterday! Dayton still does well with tummy time and is holding his head up more and more. He holds his head up the best when he is on my shoulder and is looking around!

Temperament: Little man is a pretty happy baby. We went to our church group bbq last night and he got passed around for about 2 hours and was completely happy (and awake) the entire time! Dayton has been getting a little cranky before he eats. I'm ready for this growth spurt to be over!

Likes: Dayton likes his swing, going for walks/runs, staring at his pups, snuggling on momma's shoulder, getting some tummy time on daddy's chest and eating. He really likes eating.

Dislikes: Being hungry, getting his diaper changed when he's hungry, and being hungry.

Small Moments: This week I enjoyed Mother's Day weekend with my little man. It's my first Mother's Day and I enjoyed every second of it. I love being a momma and I wouldn't change a thing!

Top: big boy sittin' / momma's running buddy / tummy time
Middle: baby cuddles / playing with daddy / Mother's Day flowers
Bottom: best part of Mother's Day / Mommy's little buddy / he's chunky and he knows it!
