Dayton ~ 4 Weeks

Week 4 has gone really well for us. I am loving being a stay-at-home mommy and each week gets easier and easier. I mean, Dayton has always been an easy baby, but our schedule, nursing, and our days are pretty routine and everything is going great! It is going to be so hard to go back to work in August. My dream (and the hubs hope) is to eventually be a stay at home momma, but this year it's just not possible. Maybe with baby #2?! Fingers crossed!!

Mr. Dayton hit a growth spurt this week. We had worked our way into a 3 hour eating schedule and this Momma was loving a little extra time between feedings. However, little man woke up Wednesday morning, ate at 9 am like normal, and then woke up at 11 am starving! I went ahead and fed him because he was so hungry and 2 hours later he woke up starving again. I consulted a few of my books and trusted websites and found that most babies hit a growth spurt at 3-4 weeks and would want to eat every 1-2 hours. Oh boy. So, we switched our schedule back to a 2 hour schedule and little man has been waking up to eat every 2 hours on the dot. He's also eating 4-5 ounces at each feeding. Little man is going to be so big!

This week Dayton and I have been making several trips out of the house to Target, the grocery store, and we even went garage saling on Thursday in our neighborhood and on Saturday with Auntie Beth. Our neighborhood has a huge garage sale every year in May. This year there were over 40 houses in our neighborhood that took part in the sale. Our neighborhood collects a lot of data and info and then sends a detailed spreadsheet to everyone in the neighborhood about who has what. There were tons of houses that had baby boy things, so the hubs and I plus Beth and Gene walked around to each of the garage sales. Dayton and I also drove down to CR to meet Beth at 8:30 am and we went to a whole town's worth of garage sales. Beth and I finished up around 12:30 pm and then Dayton and I hung out at their house for a while before we drove home. Little man is a trooper! He slept through the whole morning, I nursed him once in the car, and then again at Beth and Gene's house before we went home. He's such a good baby!

I don't know about you, but we don't plan on buying many of the kids clothes new. Why would we?! They're expensive and we've been able to find a ridiculous amount of clothes that are practically brand new and have spent a total of about $200. Between my awesome craigslist find and garage sales, we're pretty set on baby clothes until Dayton is about 18 months old! Woo! It's so much fun that Beth is also having a boy, so we've enjoyed shopping together. Can't wait for these cousins to grow up together!!

Mommy: I am still doing pretty well. My incision is healing well and I think I am ready to get back to running and some at home workouts. The hubs and I are trying to figure out when each of us can get to the gym. Don't worry y'all, I won't be working out hard. I just need to get back to the gym and get moving! Sitting around the house is not my thing. I prefer to be an active person...constantly. Plus, I need to get some of this baby weight off. It would just make me feel better! I'm at this really weird place with clothes...my maternity clothes are way too big, but my regular clothes are still a little too small. Ugh...worst in between stage ever.

The weather has been nicer this week, but the wind has been ridiculous lately. I've been trying to get outside and take Dayton for some walks, but the wind is so strong is very bothersome for him even wrapped up in his stroller. At least the sun is out and the temps are up! Little man seems to like being outside though, so I'm hoping he enjoys our runs!

Nursing/Eating: Like I was saying above, the babe is on a 2 hour eating schedule right now. I'm having trouble lately keeping him awake while he's eating. He's still eating well and it only takes about 20 minutes, but I think he could eat more if he would stay awake. Any suggestions? I've tried burping him, changing his diaper, playing with him, talking to him, and taking his clothes off. I guess he is a super sleepy baby. From what I'm reading, falling asleep while eating is a bad habit for him to get into and can lead to "snacking" eventually.

This week I am going to try to get little man on a 2 1/2 - 3 hour eating schedule. This would mean eating at 9 am, 12 pm, 3 pm, 6 pm, 9 pm, (then 4 hours) 1 am, 5 am, (7 am - if needed), and 9 am. Nursing is still going really well. I've experienced a few clogged milk ducts...ouch! Apparently, mommas who produce a lot of milk can experience several of these in the first few months of nursing. I try to drain all of the milk with pumping and that seems to help clear it up. I could do without clogged ducts though...

Daddy got to give Dayton his first bottle on Sunday! I was so precious. The doctor advised us to wait till 4-6 weeks to introduce bottles. We wanted to get Dayton into a good nightly routine with Daddy feeding him at 9 pm so that I could pump and then we could all go to bed around 9:30 pm. Daddy was a champ and Dayton had no trouble taking a bottle and we haven't experienced any nipple confusion so far! Yay! I know the hubs is excited to finally get to be a part of feeding the babe and I'm happy to watch him interact with Dayton.

Sleeping: Little man is still doing pretty well with sleeping. Recently he has been eating at 9 pm, 1 am, 5 am, and 9 am. So I have been doing okay getting sleep. Usually it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour from the start of each feeding to change him, feed him, burp him, and pump. He's been getting a lot better about going back to sleep. I think we established a good day and night routine so that he doesn't confuse them and when he's supposed to be awake.

Size: He's definitely growing! One of my friends/co-workers said that she has a baby scale and she would be happy to let me borrow it! Hopefully, I can get that soon just for fun and I'll add little man's weight stats to the weekly updates! Dayton is still wearing most of is newborn clothes. Some of them are a little too small and the 0-3 month clothes are still a little big on him. He is wearing the size 1 diapers and still wets and blows out of them every now and then.

Development: This week I've heard more "cooing" from my sweet little bug. I love his grunts, growls, and squeaks but I love hearing his little voice! It hasn't been too much, but I get to hear it every now and then and it's just so sweet! Dayton is definitely more awake during the day and we love to play on the couch. Dayton likes it when I sit on the couch and prop my feet on the coffee table and sit him up against my legs. We talk and play and I enjoy the interaction with him (and trying to keep him awake for a period of time!).

Temperament: The babe is still a content and happy baby overall. He's happy to sit in my lap looking around and making noises. He also does pretty well with tummy time and doesn't get frustrated very quickly. Such a sweet baby!

Likes: Dayton likes his swing, laying in laps, being snuggled, and laying propped up in the boppy pillow.

Dislikes: This week, the babe has decided that he does not like his arms swaddled anymore. They have to be out of his swaddle...which is kind of the point of a swaddle. Whatever. He spent about an 30 minutes the other night grunting (while I was trying to sleep) and growling while he was trying to release his arms. The next time I swaddled him in his halo sack, I left his arms out and he was pretty happy about it.

Small Moments: I'd have to say this week, my favorite moments are shoulder cuddles. He's gotten pretty good about snuggling up on my chest and shoulder and his little arms and hands are on my arm and chest. It's just so precious. It's like his tiny little hand and arms wraps around my arm and he's holding on to me. Melts me.

Top: Saying "hi" to Daddy / kissy face / wide awake
Middle: guard pup / sleepy heads / awake time fail
Bottom: sweetest angel / so big! / Momma cuddles
