Happy 30th Birthday Husband!!

The big 3-0. It finally came for the hubs. I've been teasing him all year about turning 30, and being "old", and I might have called him grandpa a few times...which I'm sure will bite me in the butt in a few years. Oh well!

Normally, the hubs starts letting me know it's his birthday on February 1st - even though his birthday is February 27th. Yep, I hear, "It's my birthday!" the entire month. This year he was oddly quiet about it being his birthday. I wonder if turning 30 had anything to do with it?! Bless. I asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday and his reply was "nothing really...". Um, no. I was NOT about to let that one go. So the surprise plans began.

I wanted to throw the hubs a birthday party, but I didn't want to make a huge deal out of it. He's just not that kind of guy. He needed a 30th birthday party, but nothing huge and fancy. Just a simple get-together dinner would do. I sent an e-invite to our friends and family inviting them out to a surprise dinner party for the hubs 30th birthday. I ordered 30th decorations and had them mailed to a friends house, I ordered him an awesome 30th birthday t-shirt, and made plans for a chocolate birthday cake and a beer cake!

Finally the day came. It worked out perfectly because we had our Lamaze class all day on Saturday. We got out of class around 4:30 pm (it was supposed to be 5 pm), so I had to really take a looooong time getting ready for dinner - which he thought was his "birthday dinner" with 2 other couples. When I say I had to take a long time, I mean it. It was borderline ridiculous and I could tell he was getting irritated that we would be late! Ha! Best ever. After I got the okay from a friend, we got in the truck to drive to dinner and he was silent. I knew exactly what that meant - he was not happy that we were late to "his birthday dinner." We talked through it (while I was trying not to crack up) and I apologized for making us late.

It got even better when he went to turn left on Main Street to where he though we were going when I said,

Me: "Where are you going? Didn't you see Ryan's text? We're meeting them at Pepper's because the guys are finishing their drinks."

Husband: "What?! Why? Why are we meeting them at Pepper's? It's my birthday dinner. I don't want to go to Pepper's."

Me: "I don't know...they were there early and were watching the game or something. Check your phone. That's what Kate told me."

Husband: "This is ridiculous. I don't want to go to Pepper's. I'm hungry."

All of this while I'm looking out the window trying not to laugh out loud! Anyways, we finally got to Pepper's, he let me out while he parked and I ran upstairs. Once he got upstairs, everyone yelled, "Surprise!!" and he just stood there...with a very confused look on his face. Priceless! It took a while for the people, including his parents, sister and husband, a bunch of our friends, the 30th birthday decorations, the cake, etc. to finally sink in. He was really confused...he had Tony's on his brain. Love it!! His face made it all worth it.

Happy 30th birthday bear!! I love you and I'm so glad we got to celebrate you being old!!

(Excuse the pictures...I took 2 pictures and then my camera died. Boo.)

His real birthday was on a Thursday. He wanted to keep it simple, so we did. We went to the gym (per his request), got sushi, caught up on a few of our shows at home, and went to bed early. Old man...
