Bumpdate: Weeks 5-7

Here we go again! I've tried my best to keep up with the bumpdates for baby #2. Hopefully, I'll be able to get these done in a timely manner. I have loved being able to look back at baby #1's bumpdates, so I really want to do the same for this babe.

Week 5~
We found out that we were pregnant when I was 4.5 weeks along. I didn't feel pregnant and honestly, I almost couldn't believe it. When I called my midwife the morning after I "thought" we might be pregnant, she sent me for a blood test to make sure. It was positive. A part of me still couldn't believe it. My midwife sent me back for another blood test 48 hours later, to make sure that this wasn't just a chemical pregnancy and that all of my hormone levels were rising. They were. We were pregnant. We were actually pregnant. All we could say was, thank you. Thank you, Lord!

  • Baby is the size of a: sesame seed
  • weight: 0.004 oz  /  length: 0.10 in
  • Baby has millions of cells that are busy multiplying. Our little one now has a two-chambered heart. Baby's ears and eyes are starting form, but baby still resembles a tadpole.
Week 6 ~
Week 6 was the week the nausea set in. Yuck. The mornings weren't too terrible, but I was so tired and had a really hard time waking up. The nausea really started setting in around 10 am. Thankfully, I had kind of figured out how to manage the morning sickness with my first pregnancy, so I kept the same strategies with baby #2. Snacks, snacks, and carbs. I kept some crackers in my desk for emergencies, but I was able to keep on eating small and healthy snacks throughout the day.

Per my midwife's request, we had a 6.5 weeks ultrasound. She wanted to make sure baby was developing correctly as the fertility treatments I had taken can cause many various complications. We were so happy to see our tiny little babe and we could even see the tiny fluttering of our little bit's heart. That's the earliest ultrasound we've ever had and it was pretty neat!

  • Baby is the size of a: grain of rice
  • weight: 0.01 oz  /  length: 0.30 in
  • Baby is mostly a head and tail at this point, but little eyes, mouth, and ear are growing. Baby's arms and legs are in the form of tiny buds.

7 weeks ~
Week 7 was about the same as week six. I was incredibly tired and still pretty nauseas. Night time was the absolute worst time of the day, but honestly, I was so happy to be sick because that meant that I was pregnant. We were actually pregnant!

  •  Baby is the size of a: blueberry
  • weight: 0.02 oz  / length: 0.50 in
  • Baby's teeth buds are forming this week. Our baby's arms and legs have grown longer and have started segmenting into future fingers and toes. Baby's belly is also stating to form, baby's brain is growing, and the eye lenses are forming as well.

Weeks 5-7:

Weight Gain: According to the scale, only two pounds.

How I Feel: I felt just fine until about week 6. Then the exhaustion and nausea kicked in pretty good. I'm a little anxious every now and then, but overall my anxiety is much better this time around than it was when I was pregnant with Dayton. Maybe the fact that God gave us our little miracle babe has helped!
  • Stretch marks: none
  • Belly button: in
  • Other: some cramping, but according to my mid-wife it is normal
How Daddy's Feeling: Super excited!

Cravings: chips and salsa

Food Aversions: none so far

Movement: none

Sleep: sleeping a lot!

Best Moment: finding out little babe was doing well

Worst Moment: feeling sick

Looking Forward to: our next appointment

Pregnancy thoughts this week: I'm pregnant. I'm actually pregnant.

Diet: So far, I've been able to keep my clean eating 80/20 like always. I'm eating a few more carbs than normal, but that's just to help with the nausea. So far, I'm pretty happy about trying so hard to eat clean and healthy.

Exercise: I was cleared to work out and I have been, but I slowed it down to about 3-5 days a week instead of 6. I'm still running, although it does make me slightly nervous. I guess knowing that God gave us this baby makes me feel a little more confident. I'm taking it easy. Don't worry, mom.

What's happening around here weeks 5-7: Week 5 was pretty normal. I turned 6 weeks when the hubs and I took our hunting trip over the weekend. The next Tuesday, we had our 6.5 week appointment and ultrasound. All good news! 7 weeks was back to the same old, same old.
