16 Week Appointment Update: This week we met a new doctor. The office I go to has 5 doctors. We don't know which one will deliver Baby since it will be whoever is on call that day, so we are making appointments with different doctors so that we can meet them all.
We started with the nurse who used the Doppler to find Baby's heart beat. I laughed when she said, "Well, that was easy. It's because you're so tiny. It's harder to find the heartbeat at this stage with..."thicker" women." HA! Made my day to be called tiny still. She moved the Doppler to find Baby's heartbeat at a louder spot and measured Baby's heartbeat at 148 bpm. Then we met with the doctor. We discussed the 20 week appointment, my body fat percentage, and workout regimen. Doc cleared me to do "anything I wanted in the gym" as long as my temp doesn't get above 102 degrees. Brad immediately said, "You just made her month!" He knows me well. Everything is looking great with baby and now we can count down the days until Dec 11th!
- Week 16
- Baby is the size of a : avocado (from crown to rump)
- Weight : 3.53 oz. / Length : 4.57 in.
- Baby is still very small but Baby's little heart is pumping up to 25 quarts of blood a day. Baby is continually practicing wiggling and kicking! Baby's legs and arms are completely formed and his/her bones are hardening even more. Baby's eyes are still closed, but they are making little movements and even have the ability to sense the change in light!
Weight Gain: About 8 pounds, but I'm not worried about it and neither is my doctor. I feel like my body is adjusting to being pregnant (less bloated) and I have been working out - my body is appreciating that! My baby bump seems smaller (to me) this week and more "protruding"...not sure if that makes sense to anyone but me!
How I Feel: I'm actually feeling great! Most of the time I "forget" that I'm pregnant. My back is achy and pops out of place pretty easily. This is due (according to my chiropractor) to the extra estrogen in my body. Parts of me are getting larger (not complaining about those!), but I really do feel good and I am loving every minute of being prego!
- Stretch marks: None :)
- Belly button: I, but it is starting to not sink in as much.
- Other: I don't think I have been "hormonal." I definitely can't remember anything, literally - thanks pregnancy brain. I haven't really been emotional or irrational (at least I don't think...). The hubs says he hasn't really noticed much of a difference other than that my forgetfulness is off the charts...whoops!
Cravings: Still salty food and mostly chips and salsa. Yum. I still don't really want anything sweet. Dessert just isn't my thing right now.
Food Aversions: There's not too much that grosses me out anymore. I'm doing pretty well!
Movement: This is my favorite part! Baby was just rollin' and wigglin' Saturday night and on Sunday. Those days were the most I have ever felt baby!! I haven't felt baby as much during the week, but part of that is probably that I am up on my feet and busy all day and night! When I am sitting down and relaxed I feel baby more. I just can't wait to feel some "real" kicks!
Sleep: Still sleeping great and needing a lot of sleep. I have become quite the light sleeper though. When Belle gets up at night and walks around it waked me up. That's ok...might as well get used to it!
Best Moment This Week: Our 16 week appointment! I love that Brad wants to come to each one with me. He loves hearing baby's heartbeat just as much as I do! He's such a good hubby and will be an amazing daddy! I also love how much he talks to baby...makes my heart happy.
Worst Moment This Week: Ha...that's easy. We had Parent/Teacher conferences on Tuesday from 4-8 pm and on Thursday from 1-8 pm. I. am. exhausted!!
Looking Forward to: Finding out what gender baby is!!
What I Miss: Sushi. I love sushi and it has been killing me that I can't eat all of those delicious rolls! Especially since we are going home soon and I can't partake in my favorite rolls from "our spot"!! Thankfully, a sushi place up here has 1 roll that has cooked shrimp. Whew! I love it.
Pregnancy Thoughts this Week:
- I've met a few more people who have had a natural birth with no epidural. It's comforting to hear how happy people were with their decision. I know I can do it and I fully plan on it!
- The hubs and I have to get on finding baby some daycare for next August. We are going to visit some local, recommended daycare's, but we are really hoping to find a good, in-home daycare near us!
- I've been doing a lot of reading on pregnancy and need-to-know things for when baby comes. It all just amazes me so much! God is such an amazing creator. I almost cannot even comprehend how intricate making a baby in my womb is. It's unbelievable and every baby truly is a miracle! I am so happy and blessed that I get to experience this!
Exercise: I cannot even continue to tell you how happy I am to be back in the gym and lifting weights again. Whose happy? This girl - right here. Happy happy happy. Getting back into my normal lifting routine (Mon-chest, Tues-cardio, Wed-back, Thurs-shoulders, Fri-cardio, Sat-leg day!!!) is amazing. The funny part is watching people at the gym look at my tummy and try to figure out what's going on. Ha! Brad said he caught a few people giving me a double take. Pretty sure I'm the first pregnant girl lifting in that gym (well, at least in the past 1 1/2 that we've been there). Most people were used to seeing me with a completely flat stomach...not there's a baby in there! Hello gym...I missed you.
I tried yoga this Saturday to help with flexibility, relaxation, and breathing techniques. I've read a lot about the benefits of yoga, especially when you're pregnant. It went pretty well. Thanks to years of gymnastics and continued stretching after workouts, I felt pretty good about my level of flexibility. I definitely have room for improvement...like when doing back bends. I don't think my abs have stretched that far in a while! I think I will definitely continue this on Saturday mornings and I think I've almost convinced the hubs to come with me! Now that will be fun... ;)
Disclaimer...my hair is totally struggling due to Saturday morning, yoga, and rain. Nice.
