Boy or Girl?

[This post has been in the making for about 4 weeks now...it's taken me waaaay to long to compile all of our "data collection"!]

Being pregnant? Amazing. Waiting to find out if Baby is a boy or a girl?? Fun, yet excruciating! I am not the most patient person, so having to wait 20 weeks to find out what gender our sweet baby will be is killing me! I just wanna know!!

At 12 weeks when we knew everything was "safe," we started guessing about what Baby would be. I'm also pretty sure we started talking about boy and girl names the week we found out we were expecting...What? It's exciting!! Along those lines, I get quite a few emails from Pregnancy/Baby websites on all sorts of topics. Some of our favorites have been the weekly updates on how Baby is growing, but I think we also have loved the "Gender Predictors" or "Old Wives' Tales" about how to predict if you're having a boy or a girl. I found a bunch of these cute ideas on online while I was scouring Pinterest for our Gender Reveal Party. I loved the way they showed the boy and girl differences in the "predictors!" Of course, the ones on Pinterest were on cute chalkboards, or printed and put in frames, but this is what I came up with.

Here's what we've read...and here's what we've found for the Gender Predicting Indicators!

Out of the 14 myths that we read...10 predictors said Baby is a boy and 4 predictors said Baby would be a girl. Interesting. Oh, but wait! There's a few more we had to test out.

Gender Predicting Old Wives' Tales:

*How Low Can you Go? ~  We've already decided that we "think" I am carrying lower, but according to this Old Wives' Tale, if you carry in front - baby is a boy. If you expand horizontally - baby is a girl.
  • Result : According to this predictor, Baby is a boy. We think I am carrying in front, especially after the bloating finally went away! I haven't expanded horizontally, just farther and father out front!
*It's All in the Ring Swing ~ This Old Wives' Tale tells an expecting mom to tie her ring to a string and hold it in front of her belly. If they ring swings in a circle - baby is a boy. If the ring swings back and forth - baby is a girl.
Result: According to this Old Wives' Tale, Baby is a boy. I was totally skeptical of this one, but when I put my ring on a string and held it in front of my belly, the string moved in a circle! I specifically made sure that I just held it and kind of dropped it and did not move my hand. This one was pretty weird!

*The Drano Experiment ~ This Old Wives' Tale is quite odd. The mom-to-be is supposed to pee in a cup then mix in a tablespoon of Drano. If the liquid turns green - baby is a girl. If the liquid turns blue - baby is a boy. Yea...we did NOT try this one! Ga-ross...and weird.

*Age Isn't Just a Number ~ The Myans used a similar method as the Chinese Gender Predictor. They said that if the mother's birth year and age are both odd or both even - baby is a girl. If one is odd and one is even - baby is a boy.

Result : According to this, Baby is a boy. Birth year - 1985. Age - 28.

*Keying In ~ This Old Wives' Tale a friend to place a key in front of the mom-to-be. If the Momma picks up the key by the narrow part - baby is a girl. If the Momma picks up the key by the round part - baby is a boy.
Excuse my nails...
Result: According to this Old Wives' Tale, Baby is a boy. Brad put a key in front of me after he read this (I stopped when I realized I had to do this one without knowing the results!) and I grabbed it by the round part to pick it up! I kind of want to try this on some of the girls at work (since I have 7 to choose from!) and see what happens!

Another Predictor that was not found anywhere on the Internet - my class of 18 kids (8 girls and 10 boys) thinks Baby Bishop is a boy! Total tallies ~ 12 for boy and 6 for girl!

Sooooo...
What do YOU think? Is Baby Bishop a boy or a girl?? We shall see after December 11th! Eek!
