Election Day

(Yep, I'm going to go there...  Please note: opinions expressed in this post are held by my husband and I and are by no means oppressed upon others. This is a personal opinion post and is not meant to start any arguments, debates, and/or discussion.)

Yesterday was Election Day 2012. The candidates were President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. My husband and I are both very conservative Republicans. For lack of better words, the past 4 years have been a complete disaster. The economy is a mess, we are 6 billion dollars MORE in debt, unemployment has not improved, etc.

Last night, we watched America make their decision. Although we do not agree with that decision, it is our responsibility as American citizens to respect (notice, I did not say support) the President. This is also a Biblical attitude that we are required to have. As Christians, we respect our authority, "give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's" (Mark 12:17), and do our best to be knowledgeable about our country's politics.

Brad and I both believe that it is our responsibility as American citizens to know what is going on in our country. That means more than watching the news and the negative/bashing adds. We read - a lot - about past politics and current politics, so that we can be well informed in our decision making. It is incredibly frustrating that our generation seems to not even know what is going on in the daily news, much less politics!

However, both of us believe that even though the election did not go the way we would have liked to see, Jesus Christ is still God and he is still in control of everything. He is even in control of the mess that has been created in our country. He has a divine plan and no matter what happens, our security lies in the hands of our Savior.

This morning, my life verse was a great comfort to me...

John 16:33  ~"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

I have no cause for worry or for fear, because my Lord is more powerful than any other and He has already "overcome the world."

I couldn't agree more...I wondered aloud to Adam last night if this is really God's plan or if like the Israelites who wanted a physical king, God has decided to let American's have their way. One thing is for sure, He is in control and that is what matters!

Could not possibly agree more! Amen. It's so so sad how ignorant people are able to vote when they don't even know what's going on? Can they not see that this country is already going to hell in a hand basket if it keeps doing what we're doing?! Grrrr!! So frustrating!!! It was SO hard to keep my mouth shut last night, too, but you said it perfectly.

So so disappointed. Great post, though!
