Well, week one is in the books. Little man is a doll and we are so happy that he is finally here! Here's a "quick" recap of how our first week went.
Monday, July 18th
- Little man arrived at 9:27 pm! 7 lb 7 oz and 20.5 in long.
- Mama got cleaned up and took a bath around 11 pm and everyone finally went to bed around 12:30 pm.
- Colton started eating every two hours. He's already a pro at nursing.
- Colton made choking/gurgling noises most of the night and mama was a little worried. The nurse suggested he sleep in the nursery so that they could keep an eye on him and I could sleep.
- Colton came back to our room every two hours to eat.
Tuesday, July 19th
- We were all up by 7 am. The hubs and I ordered breakfast and enjoyed lots of snuggles with out newest little man.
- Grandma and Grandpa Bishop had Dayton, so we were excited to see him later that morning.
- Dayton came to meet his new little brother! Grandma and Grandpa dropped him off so that we could have some time alone with our new little family of four!
- Grandma and Grandpa came back later to visit and meet their newest grand baby.
- We wanted to be able to go home early (as in that night), so the nurses started our check out process, which got halted, and then restarted at some point.
- Colton was checked on by nurses, doctors and more nurses all day. Poor bug.
- Mama's 2nd grade team came to visit! and brought presents and goodies!
- Our friends, Kate and Ryan and Bobbi and Nate came to visit as well with their families.
- We finally got to go home! at 11:30 pm. What a night of trying to get out of there, but being able to sleep in our own bed made it all worth it.
Wednesday, July 20th
- Waking up in our own bed in our own house was the best way to start out our day. Giving birth and going home in 24 hours is totally doable and definitely worth it.
- The hubs and I took Colton back to the hospital mid-afternoon to get his kidney ultrasound.
- Grandma and Grandpa spent the morning with us and then left in the afternoon. Thank you, Mom and Dad Bishop, for taking care of Dayton while we were in the hospital!!
- Colton ate and slept all day and Dayton loved on his brother quite a bit! He also called him baby Macy (his cousin) a few times, but we got that figured out pretty quickly. ;)
- We spent Wednesday adjusting to our new family of four!
Thursday and Friday, July 21-22
- Thursday and Friday we had some much needed and loved alone time as a new family of four.
- Colton also had his circumcision procedure at Allen hospital on Thursday morning.
- Colton put himself on a pretty steady two hour eating schedule. He is such a cuddle bug and loved being held by anyone.
- Dayton loves his baby brother and always asks where he is and what he is doing.
Saturday, July 23
- Colton slept for 5 hours straight last night! Mama needed that.
- Dayton and I went on a doughnut date to Dunkin. Mama wanted to spend some special time with her little man so that he wouldn't feel left out.
- We cleaned up the house and waited for my parents to arrive.
- Nanny and Papa got to our house after their long drive around 1:45 pm!
- Nanny brought lots of "big brother" presents for Dayton and new baby presents for Colton.
- We spent the night at home eating pizza and catching up.
Sunday, July 24
- Colton settled into a 2 hour eating schedule.
- Nanny and Papa hung out with Dayton and helped us run some errands.
- We enjoyed being home and spending time with family.
- Mama and Colton made our first trip to HyVee!
Happy one week Colton!
Week 1 Update:
Mommy: I am doing pretty well. I did not tear, so healing has been much faster than I thought it would be. I am being almost religious about taking hot baths and using padsicles. The hot bath helps more than anything I think. I have been up and walking around each day, but trying to take it easy and not over do it. When I over do it, I can tell by mid-afternoon. I always wake up feeling great, but then start feeling sore by the end of the day.
Nursing: Nursing is going very well. Colton latched on about 10 minutes after birth, so we have been steadily nursing every two hours. Colton was born Monday night and my milk came in on Thursday. I have started pumping already to ease engorgement, and my supply is just as large as it was with Dayton. I am so thankful that we do not have any issues with breastfeeding.
Eating: Colton eats every 2 hours almost on the dot. He eats from both sides for about 5-8 minutes each. I don't think he eats as much as Dayton did, but he is eating well!
Sleeping: Colton was up every 2 hours to eat Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. By Thursday night he was starting to sleep 3-4 hours at night. On Friday night he slept 5 hours! It was amazing and much needed. Colton eats about 10-12 times in a 24 hour time period.
Activity: Colton is surprisingly awake and alert! (Dayton slept all of the time.) Sometimes he will fall asleep after he eats, but sometimes he is awake for 30 minutes after he eats. He holds his head up fairly well for a newborn. I remember them putting him on my chest after he came out and after about 20 minutes, he lifted his little head up and looked at me. I was surprised!
Small Moments: I absolutely love bonding with my baby during nursing. It's our own little quiet time (kind of...with a 2 year old running around). The hubs gives me a break when I nurse and take Dayton so that I can have some alone time with Colton. I love nursing him, snuggling, and talking to him during our time alone. It truly is a special time for us.
Likes: Colton likes snuggling, being swaddled, mommy, and putting his fingers in his mouth.
Welcome to the world baby Colton. We love you more than we can express.
