Week 27- Second Trimester
- Baby is about the size of a : cauliflower OR a camping lantern (I found a fun new app!)
- Weight : 1.93 lb. | 14.41 in.
- This is our last week in the 2nd trimester. Hard to believe isn't it? Most babies born this week and next have an 80-90% survival rate. The amniotic fluid has decreased, so I will stat feeling baby's every movement. Baby is also practicing the sucking reflex to prepare for breastfeeding. His neurons and brain tissue are developing quickly and his brain waves are working like a newborns. Even though his skeleton is developed, the joints are not connected yet. Baby's eyelids have begun to open and his retinas have begun to develop.
Gender: boy!
Weight Gain: 17 pounds
How I Feel: As far as pregnancy wise, I'm feeling great! I'm at the point where my belly is big enough to be slightly uncomfortable. Thanks to my pregnancy pillow, sleeping is still glorious! Bending over is harder for obvious reasons and getting up and down looks a little funny. I honetly am feeling great though!
- Stretch marks: none
- Belly button: popped out
- Other: I have a few feet that enjoy kicking my right side ribs. :)
Food Aversions: fish (except shrimp)
Movement: little man is a mover! I do feel him move around quite a bit, so reading about the decrease in fluid totally made sense. I get kicked in the ribs (right side) quite a bit, but I also get kicks on the left side and middle of my belly as well. This baby boy like to push his back out the right side of my belly, just like Dayton did. One of these days, I will have to get a picture of it. My stomach looks completely deformed!
Sleep: sleeping great
Best Moment This Week: every time I feel that sweet babe move
Looking Forward to: our 28 week appointment next week! We will see my mid-wife, Kim, get an ultrasound to check on my amniotic fluid level (because of Dayton's situations), check the fluid on baby's kidneys, and I'll take the glucose test (ick).
What I Miss: being able to roll over without having to "carry" my belly to do it!
Diet: eating clean 80/20. I've noticed that my weight was going up and down after the weekends, so I'm cleaning up my diet even more. I can eat plenty of calories and nutritious foods during the day without having that piece of chocolate I started to enjoy after lunch. It's not even about the weight gain. For me, it's about providing my baby with the healthiest diet I can give him. I'm sticking to this basic diet:
- breakfast: 2 egg whites + 2 whole eggs (organic), Ezekiel toast or 1/2 cup organic oats
- snack: green protein smoothie (spinach/kale, banana, almond milk, vanilla protein powder, 2 tbsp PB2)
- lunch: 5 oz. lean meat (chicken, ground tukey, shrimp), 1 serving whole grain carb, 1 cup veggies
- snack: 1 medium organic apple, 1 organic beef stick, string cheese
- dinner: 5 oz. lean meat (chicken, ground tukey, shrimp), 1 serving whole grain carb, 1 cup veggies
- after dinner: red raspberry leaf tea (hot), 1 scoop of peanut butter (to fill me up and satisfy cravings!)
I also drink a lot of water throughout the day. In at least 3 of my water bottle "fill ups," I put 2 drops of lemon essential oil. This has helped me not hold on to water weight and cleansed toxins!
Exercise: This week I switched over to Jamie Eason's LiveFit Tainer. Phase 1 is pretty basic, so I've started on Phase 2. You can find the trainer here. This is personally a favorite! Jamie also includes a fantastic diet plan that I have used a few times and lost quite a bit of fat and gained muscle on. Seriously, she is my fitness hero - and she's a mama of two boys!
What's Happening This Week: This week is slowing down a whole lot and both the hubs and I are excited about it! Brad is done with his most recent Master's class, so Wednesdays are back to being a family night! Monday will be quiet. We are just prepping the basement bedroom for the guest room transition. Currently our guest room is upstairs. After we finish cleaning out the basement room, we'll paint the accent wall. We'll be working on this most of this week. Tuesday nights are also free now since we've finished our James study in small group and the hubs and I have decided to break a bit early for summer. Our group normally doesn't meet other than social nights for the summer. We've decided that we've had a busy year and we're ready for some family nights. So now we can enjoy the sunnier days, slowed down nights, walks after dinner, play time, and cleaning out the basement room after the kiddo goes to bed. We plan to move the furniture downstairs this weekend!
