Baby's Gender Reveal Party

I LOVE love love the "newer" trend of Gender Reveal parties. Whoever thought that up is a genius! and Pinterest has so many great ideas! The pink the blue, the decor, the food, the bets, the friends and family... I love it all!

We found out what Baby was at 16 weeks and were able to tell my parents and sister in person at Thanksgiving. Thankfully!!! We wanted to wait until our 20 week appointment to confirm the gender of Baby. Originally, we were going to find out what Baby was with everyone else, but when the opportunity came up for us to find out early and share with my family, we couldn't pass it up! The hubs and I also agreed that we wanted to know before everyone else so that we could share that moment together. The hubs also pointed out that he didn't want either of us making a "face" that someone could catch on camera when we found out what Baby was. Now, both of us were hoping for a boy, but even if Baby was a girl...a happy, healthy baby was all we wanted. That would be enough to make both of us smile! So we found out, kept our secret, confirmed at 20 weeks, and had our Gender Party!!

We invited quite a few of our Friends and all of Brad's family. I could not believe the 30+ people that showed up! We looked around at all of the people who care about us and were so overwhelmed. It was an amazing feeling to know that all of our family and friends support us and love us enough to share in our Baby's life with us! We are very blessed.

I love to throw a party, so cooking/baking, and decorating were fun! We decorated Saturday night and I started the cooking. Sunday we finished cleaning and cooking/baking and then started welcoming in our guests! We had asked everyone to wear either pink or blue to cast their votes. I was so surprised at all of the blue!! Most people were wearing blue. I feel like there were 5-8 people wearing pink! Of course, the Bishop side of the family is notorious for baby boys!

We mingled, had some light appetizers and treats, and then cut the gender reveal cake at 2:30 pm! At first, I wasn't sure how we were going to reveal. I didn't want to do balloons or dye the icing, but then I found a picture on Pinterest that I loved! The picture didn't have a link, but it was a picture of what looked like a pinata cake. There are 4 layers in the cake. The bottom and top layer are whole, but the middle 2 layers have a large circle cut out from them. You layer the first 3 layers of cake, fill with pink or blue M&M's, and then "close" the cake with the top layer! When you cut the cake, the M&M's are supposed to spill out. I had my fingers crossed, and it worked!! So. much. fun!!
