Poor Belle

Belle has allergies. Most of the time, they're not too bad. Every now and then we have to give her doggy Benadryl if her allergies flare up. On Monday, Belle came out of the room where she had been laying down. Brad noticed she had a fat lip. We assumed she had bit it, scratched it, or Abe had played a little too rough with her.

She went to lay down in her bed and about two hours later she came back out. Her whole face was swollen!! I mean, it was really really swollen. Her right eye was swollen shut, her left eye was almost swollen shut, she had two fat lips, red blotches all over her face, and her whole head just looked like a blown up balloon. It was scary! We gave her Benadryl right away and watched her very closely the rest of the night. Brad assured me that this had happened before, just never this bad, and that the Benadryl would fix it. She was less swollen by morning, so we new the Benadryl was working. We kept on giving it to her the next day, one in the morning and one at night. By night time, her face was back to normal.

This was the best picture we could get of her! It doesn't even show how swollen her face was! Poor sweet Belle! I am happy to say that she is perfectly okay and we haven't seen a reaction since. We have no idea what she got into!
