Dayton and I were flying together, alone. Brad had to work. I mean, he only has so many vacation days in a year! I wasn't too worried about Dayton on the four plane rides that we had, but I was definitely a little worried. He's a toddler. He wants to move. He only sits still in my lap when he is sleeping. Yikes! I did decide to give him a pucky (pacifier) for the plane rides to help with the noise and crankiness. Fingers crossed!
Our first flight was out of Cedar Rapids to Chicago at 5:30 am. We drove down the previous night and spent the night at Beth and Genes's house (Thanks sister!!). They were out of town, so it was a pretty quiet night. We were up early and got through security without any major meltdowns. Luckily, the stewardess let us move to seats up front that were empty! I had plenty of room and I didn't have to worry about Day kicking, poking, touching, or bothering with someone else. He slept the whole flight. Amazing.
Dayton and I ate breakfast in the Chicago airport and then waited the two hours between flights. We ran around everywhere and played with everything. We finally got on our last flight of the day and again, luckily we were in a three seat row. I had the window seat, a very nice man had the aisle seat, and by default Dayton got the middle seat! The flight went really well!!
We enjoyed a lot of family time in Connecticut. My mom and my sister were there, but I was going to miss the days that my dad would visit. We were only there for a few days so we did not do too much. Having a little one who really liked nap time and bed time, makes traveling a little more difficult. I was able to keep him on his schedule, for the most part. We played with cousins, went to the park, visited the beach, and enjoyed seeing all of our family. As always, it was extra special to see my Papa. He's 93 years old and Dayton's middle name is after Papa's name, Thomas. It's special to see Papa with Dayton. I love my family!
On Wednesday it was time to head back home. Again, my anxiety was amped up for the two flights back to Iowa. We flew from New York to Chicago (two hours) to Cedar Rapids (one and a half hours). The first flight I was nervous about, but again I had an extra seat next to us, so I put Dayton by the window. He really is such a good kid, but sometimes you just never know with toddlers! It's nerve wrecking for mamas. The layover in Chicago was not the easiest, but at least he was a crank pants there and not on the plane! The second flight went great as well. Dayton slept on me almost the whole time and I even got some reading in!!
Thank you Mom (and Jaimie) for picking us up and taking us to the airport. I know the almost two hour drive is not the best! Thank you Aunt Diane for everything while we stayed at your house. Love and miss all y'all in Connecticut!!
