Monograms...It's Just a Southern Thing

Monograms, monograms, monograms. Have you noticed how obsessed much I love them?? I do. I love them. I love them very very much. It's a Southern thing...seriously.

Let's define the South...shall we?
"The region [the South] is known for its distinct culture and history, having developed its own customs, musical styles and varied cuisines that have helped distinguish it from the rest of the United States."

Map of the Deep South and the Southern States:
Deep South                                                                                 Southern States
I know that people who don't live in the south don't really get monograms. That's fine... I still love them! They're not a "fad" or "in" or "cool." They're ours and even when the recent monogram "fad" is gone from places that are not from the south, all of us southern girls will continue to put our monogram on everything.

Every southern girl has her monogram on something and/or everything. Then all of us southern girls wait until the day that we get married so that we can put our married monogram on everything else!

I actually said that to Brad (without the swear) and then found this e-card. Ha!!
Our monogram was one of my favorite details from the wedding. Our monogram was on the invitations, the ribbons, the reception cards, the ceremony program, and all over the reception. They. Were. Everywhere.
My monogrammed bouquet ribbon in teal  (left) and the bridesmaid's monogrammed ribbons (right)

I can't even describe to you, how many things I have monogrammed or have a made. It's not sad...it's fabulous! Here are just a few...

I'm in the process of convincing Brad that it would actually save him money if he would let me get an embroidery/sewing machine. Then I could monogram everything myself!! An embroidery machine might even top the bad-A Kitchen-Aid he gave me for Christmas...might.

Moral of the story...monograms are a southern thing...and I love them.

Hi Kristen!
I just stumbled across your blog and saw that you are teaching in Cedar Falls! I am a 2nd grade teacher in Waterloo. I totally get your obsession with monograms... My husband couldn't care less, but I've monogrammed and personalized tons of things in our home and my classroom.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi! It's fun to find someone so close to home.
