My sweet parents came to visit at the beginning of April!! Yep, that means they drove all 16 hours from South Carolina to Cedar Falls, Iowa! Luckily, there trip was broken into 2 days of driving. It's a long trip and a looong way to drive.
Mom and Dad left Friday afternoon, spent the night half way and the drove the rest of the way on Saturday. They got to our house around 4 pm and I couldn't have been more excited! I had spent all week trying to make sure everything would be perfect for their visit. You see, this was my parents first visit to Iowa and their first time of actually seeing our new house! It was so mice to show them in person - NOT in pictures - our house, our town, where we work, our church, the dog park, and all of our favorite places! Since August, I have been telling them about where we live. It was so nice to SHOW them everything and do a little more explaining about what our life looks like here. Plus...it's always nice to have my parents around since I only get to see them every few months now! I missed them more than I can explain.
We took them out to eat on Saturday night at a restaurant called Montage in downtown CF. Sunday, we went to our church in the morning, had some lunch with Brad's parents who drove up to see my parents and us, went to the dog park, went out to eat for dinner at Tony's, and then enjoyed a relaxing night watching Duck Dynasty.
I had to work Monday and Tuesday morning, but I took the afternoons off to be with my parents. On Monday, Brad had scheduled a tour for us all to take at John Deere. I'm pretty sure that's half the reason my daddy came! My precious daddy grew up on Deere tractors on the family farm in Colorado. He loves this stuff and was super excited to see what Brad does at work. Brad sat next to dad during the tour and gave him all the "technical" information...the kind of information that goes right over me and mom's heads! It was a lot of fun and I know that was really special for dad! Tuesday, we spent the afternoon relaxing and talking. Monday and Tuesday, Brad and I brought dad to our gym after work. Like father, like daughter. My dad is pretty bad a$$ in the gym. Tuesday night we took them to dinner at our favorite restaurant, Beck's. They have sweet potato fries and we love the brewery there!
Mom and dad left Wednesday morning and yes, I cried my eyes out. It was sad to see them go. We had a lot of fun and it was really nice to have them here. I was so thankful that they had come! Maybe they'll come back some day...hopefully, on a plane!
